Application techniques and examples of vulcanized rubber powder in PVC modification

2025-07-04

Vulcanized rubber powder is made by crushing waste rubber through mechanical methods, freezing methods and other means. It is a powder material with rubber elasticity and can be used in the plastic industry. It can be mixed in any quantity in plastics and processed into rubber powder to toughen plastics with plastics as the base material. Polyvinyl chloride is one of them. In actual production, polyvinyl chloride toughened and modified with vulcanized rubber powder can be processed into various products through molding, laminating, calendering, injection molding, extrusion, etc. Tire rubber powder and nitrile rubber powder in vulcanized rubber powder are commonly used materials for PVC modification.

  1. Application techniques of tire rubber powder in PVC modification

Tire rubber powder processed from waste tires is often used as a dispersed phase when modifying PVC. The higher the fineness, the better the impact resistance of PVC/ tire rubber powder. It is recommended to use tire rubber powder with a fineness of 80 mesh or higher. The impact strength of PVC material shows a trend of first rapidly increasing, then slowly rising, and finally significantly decreasing with the increase of tire rubber powder usage. In actual production, when the amount of tire rubber powder used is about 10% of the amount of PVC material used, the impact performance of PVC rubber powder modified materials is the best.

  1. Application Techniques of nitrile rubber powder in PVC modification

Nitrile rubber powder is a commonly used toughening and modifying material for polyvinyl chloride. The particle size and dosage of nitrile rubber powder have the following effects on PVC modified materials: The finer the nitrile rubber powder 2ELYY92WFM, the better the toughening effect in PVC materials. It is recommended to use products with a mesh size of 60 or above. With the increase of nitrile rubber powder dosage, the notched impact strength of PVC material shows a trend of first slightly decreasing and then rapidly increasing. When toughening and modifying PVC materials with nitrile rubber powder, it is recommended to use sulfur vulcanization.

  1. Application Examples of nitrile rubber Powder in PVC modification

When preparing foamed insulation materials by blending nitrile rubber and PVC, nitrile rubber powder can be used for modification. In actual production, the fineness and impurity content of nitrile rubber powder can affect the compactness, air permeability resistance and water absorption of foamed insulation materials. It is recommended to use nitrile rubber powder with a mesh size of 80 or above, which can be evenly dispersed in rubber-plastic blends and has almost no impact on the mechanical strength, compactness, air permeability resistance and water absorption of foamed materials.

In the plastic industry, vulcanized rubber powder can be blended with various plastics such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polystyrene, and thermoplastic elastomers to improve the toughness of plastic materials and enhance their impact resistance. When adding vulcanized rubber powder to polyvinyl chloride, a moderate amount of compatibilizer can also be used to modify the rubber powder. After that, it can be blended with PVC for a better toughening effect. In the future, the editor will continue to share with you other applications of vulcanized rubber powder in the plastic industry.
